Spotlight On: LPCB at The Security Event Asia

Written by Mark Tilley | October 30, 2025
The Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) will bring its cutting-edge Live Testing Lab to The Security Event Asia next month. This highly anticipated showcase offers visitors a rare, up-close experience - watching professional forced entry specialists put a range of physical security products to the ultimate test. From windows and fencing to doorsets, these live demonstrations will reveal just how resilient and effective each product is when faced with simulated intrusion scenarios.

LPCB is the global, independent third-party certification body for loss-prevention. And for over 150 years, they’ve been built on trust. Their third-party certification means total reliability, trusted globally to increase fire safety and reduce security risks.

Founded in 1868 and now part of BRE Group, LPCB works with industry and insurers to set uncompromising standards, ensuring fire and security products perform under pressure. They test, smash, and drench products and systems in precise, controlled environments to scientific levels of accuracy. That means the people who make, install, and rely on those products can trust them to perform when it matters most.

LPCB experts will be on hand throughout the event to answer any questions visitors might have about their standards, testing and certification of physical security products.

One of the key highlights of LPCB’s presence at the event will be live attack testing demonstrations, showcasing our rigorous testing, which underpins LPCB’s trusted third-party certification.

These demonstrations will help demystify the evaluation process and provide powerful visual evidence of why independent verification matters.

Ahead of The Security Event Asia in Singapore next month, we spoke to Gary Timmins, the Global Head of Built Environment & BRE Group Ireland Lead, and David Ferguson, the Global Head of Audit, to find out more about LPCB's participation at the show and the importance of their role within the sector.

Can you comment on the importance of testing, certification and raising standards in physical security?

GT: In a global marketplace saturated with unverified performance claims, independent certification is the only reliable way to distinguish effective security products from marketing spin.

At LPCB, our role isn’t just to test products, but to uphold the trust that our certification represents. We certify products to ensure they comply, and we audit production regularly to confirm that they continue to do so. While we support manufacturers who wish to update and refine their products, we don’t drive that process; we provide the framework that makes continual improvement meaningful.

DF: An LPCB certification is all about trust. With our logo, we provide manufacturers with the assurance that their product has been thoroughly tested and ready to fulfil its intended purpose. For installers, they know they are working with a product that fits all compliance requirements, as well as suitably designed to be installed correctly and effectively. For specifiers, they know they are stipulating a manufacturer’s product that fits their compliance requirements for the works.

With LPCB, customers gain confidence that the protection and prevention products they have invested in provide the highest standards of security. It’s immensely important in a world where risk considerations are continuously evolving and, because of this, our testing and standards do the same.

What do you see as key challenges and opportunities in Asia’s security market?

GT: We are witnessing a rapid growth in demand for certified security equipment across the region, emanating from stakeholder's keen to receive LPCB’s coveted third-party assurance that their products will deliver the prescribed protection when required.

This is particularly true of those responsible for data centre security and the security of other important infrastructure. The market is understandably pushing for local supply and just-in-time delivery. Proactive regional suppliers, such as Praesidiad and ESCO, are already working with partners either within their wider organisations or supply chains to satisfy that demand for compliant products.

Others have embarked on their own journeys, developing new designs to be produced locally within the region, often using market leading components and locking systems from LPCB certified companies such as Abloy and Surelock McGill Group – both of which will be exhibiting at The Security Event Asia. We are delighted to see many partnerships between experienced UK suppliers and local manufacturers develop, leveraging UK expertise to develop regional capabilities.

Several other manufacturers responsible for producing extensive ranges of products certified to LPS 1175 will be on hand at The Security Event Asia to discuss opportunities for partnerships with local producers, stockholders, and distributors. And of course, we will have a team of experts on hand to support local manufacturers seeking to certify solutions to help satisfy the global demand for products meeting our LPS 1175 and other standards.

Why is LPCB participating in The Security Event Asia?

GT: LPCB is participating in The Security Event Asia as part of our mission to raise standards for the security of the built environment.

We are experiencing a rapid growth in the adoption of our Loss Prevention Standards (LPS) as the benchmark for defining the security performance of products protecting buildings, infrastructure, and people across the ASEAN and wider APAC regions.

The Security Event Asia provides us with a unique opportunity to meet with stakeholders from across the region to discuss the challenges they face, and demonstrate how LPCB’s Loss Prevention Standards and the products we certify to those standards are used to deliver robust layered defences that protect people and property from a wide range of threat actors.

DF: The tools used to bypass physical security systems are always changing, becoming more effective and accessible. Security systems must be prepared not only for the risks posed now, but those in the future. Asia’s security market must also consider their environmental risks and ensure the right materials are used to ensure the protection provided on installation remains durable over the long term.

Can you comment on the importance of live testing for manufacturers and end-users?

GT: Live testing is a powerful way to demonstrate how security solutions perform under attack conditions. It offers an opportunity to see how products respond to genuine threats, not just in theory, but in practice.

For manufacturers, it is a chance to reinforce the credibility of their LPCB certification to those attending the event.

For end-users, our live testing demonstrates the vigour with which we evaluate products to ensure those that carry the certification can be trusted to deliver the very best protection when it matters.

At The Security Event Asia, we’re bringing LPCB’s exacting testing standards to life, bridging the gap between product promise and real-world requirements.

DT: Live testing provides an instant snapshot into the sheer vigor our expert testers conduct for each and every product seeking a LPCB certification. Public displays of our process not only increase our credibility, they provide a real-world example of the risks physical security is up against and how products have been expertly designed and manufactured to meet the task.

For our customers, live demonstrations bring additional confidence to the products they’ve created. There’s also a sense of pride seeing the risks they’ve tried to prevent in theory come to fruition in practice.

How does LPCB certification support innovation, safety, and reliability in the industry?

GT: Innovation in the security industry must go hand-in-hand with assurance and that’s where LPCB certification plays a crucial role.

We work with manufacturers at the cutting edge of design to ensure that performance is not compromised by speed to market or aesthetic ambition.

As part of this, we are involved in testing products in the early stages—development testing. These exploratory sessions are conducted either in our laboratories or at a manufacturer’s own facilities.

These sessions allow manufacturers to understand how different design elements perform before committing to full-scale testing and certification.

LPCB’s independent testing and third-party certification provide stakeholders with assurance that products meet the globally trusted performance requirements set out in our standards. In doing so, we help manufacturers bring innovative products to market with verified security performance, supporting innovation through assurance, without constraining creativity.

DF: Our certification is only achieved through meeting thorough testing requirements. The threat landscape does not stay still, so we ensure that our testing procedures are always innovating, adding more equipment, methods, and analysis to effectively certify product compliance.

Constantly expanding our arsenal of testing methods brings additional reliability to our customers' products, as they know that if they’ve received a certification from LPCB, all practical threats have been covered.
