In an effort to enhance fan safety and security at the 65,585-seat venue, Verkada's new deployment unifies video security, access control, guest management, intercoms and alarms into a single, cloud-based platform. This enables streamlined security operations at the requisite scale and speed that such a large-scale venue demands.
The stadium, located in the Miami Gardens region of the city, is a year-round destination for major events. Beyond it's NFL commitments, the broader campus supports large-scale operations throughout the year, including international events and a race circuit that runs around the stadium complex.
With the increased focus on security infracstructure and preparedness at major sports venues, Verkada and the Dolphins' approach of embracing new technologies should keep them ahead of the curve and help provide a safe environment for all guests.
Verkada's solution incorporated the following elements:
A single platform for speedier and more efficient decisions: All systems are consolidated into a single interface, allowing operators to assess footage and make reactive decision faster, especially when multiple teams are involved. This improves the speed and consistency across day-to-day operations and event environments.
Proactive alerting acting as a force multiplier: Advanced tools, such as perimeter alerts and proactive detection, enable a proactive approach to monitoring the stadium's exterior and surrounding areas, flagging unusual activity before it escalates.
Faster investigations: The AI-Powered Unified Timeline assists operating teams reconstruct movement across views more quickly and shortens the search window. This is crucial in environments where incidents that can span multiple cameras and locations.
Event-day collaboration with temporary access and auditability: During major events, the Security Operations Center (SOC) can include both internal staff and external stakeholders, such as law enforcement and other public safety agencies who need limited access to specific cameras or zones. Verkada's solution grants temporary access to external teams for a defined period of time, as well as scoping permissions to the right locations and cameras and effectively revoking access afterwards (whilst maintaining an audit trail of who accessed what and when).
Filip Kaliszan, co-founder and CEO of Verkada said: "Hard Rock Stadium can swing from hundreds of employees and vendors on a weekday to more than 65,000 fans in a matter of hours.
"Verkada is built to handle this kind of complexity, with one unified platform that keeps pace with an operation that never stays still.
"We're proud to provide solutions that help keep fans, athletes and entertainers who visit Hard Rock Stadium safe - and to give the team behind these legendary events the tools they need to keep delivering a world-class experience."
Hard Rock Stadium worked with Castaway Technology and Security (CTS) to support the Verkada deployment and implementation across the campus.
Verkada's Command Connector was utilised to bring the stadium's existing video security infrastructure into the new platform during the migration period, ensuring a smooth transition and letting security teams work from Verkada's platform from day one.
CTS co-founder Craig Bruce said: "Hard Rock Stadium is a marquee venue that demands a security infrastructure to match. Our goal was to help them transition to a more agile and integrated ecosystem. With Verkada, we were able to deliver a truly end-to-end solution that eliminates technical friction, allowing the security team to focus entirely on maintaining a safe, premier experience for every fan."
