Mitie has finalised a year-long extension of its hold baggage screening contract at London's Stansted Airport.

The extended contract builds on a long-standing partnership at one of the UK's busiest airports, which has been in place since 2018.

Mitie provides round-the-clock baggage screening technology, checking for items that could pose a security risk. They also provide highly-trained and Security Industry Authority-licensed aviation security officers to deliver further checks before items are cleared for loading.

As part of the agreement, Mitie also utilise data-driven operational heat maps to identify the busiest times for hold baggage screening, assisting with planning for staffing levels and helping keep screening operations running smoothly.

The extended contract strengthens Mitie's relationship with the Manchester Airport Group, with Mitie also delivering facilities management services at both Manchester Airport and East Midlands Airport.

Dan O’Riordan, aviation and transport sector director at Mitie, said: "This contract extension reflects the outstanding work our colleagues deliver every day and we’re very pleased to continue our long-standing partnership with London Stansted Airport.

"Our aviation security officers play a vital role in helping to keep passengers safe and supporting the smooth running of one of the UK’s busiest airports. The contract extension reflects Mitie’s extensive experience across the transport and aviation sector, where more than 4,500 colleagues support customers at circa 1,500 sites across the UK.

"We look forward to continuing to work closely with the team at London Stansted Airport in order to deliver safe, secure and efficient services for passengers and airlines alike."
