Mitie and Airbus Sign Multi-Year UK Security Contract with Training Focus
Mitie has agreed a security contract in the UK spanning multiple years with commercial aircraft designer and manufacturer Airbus.
Starting from 1 October, the contract will see roughly 300 staff deliver integrated security services across seven UK locations.
Mitie’s Intelligence Security Operations Centre (ISOC) will provide tailored intelligence that enables colleagues to identify and prevent emerging risks. Specialist teams across aviation security, site security, emergency response, guest services, vetting and control-room operations will work alongside wider regional and UK security resources, helping to maintain safe, secure and compliant operations.
As part of the collaboration, Mitie will invest in training and development through a new 13-month Security Operative programme. The programme is designed to equip future security professionals with the skills needed to identify risks, respond to incidents and deliver high-quality customer service, and will be delivered through a Level 2 apprenticeship.
To support early careers development, Mitie will also create three dedicated entry-level Academy Officer roles at Airbus sites, providing hands-on operational experience and structured pathways into long-term careers in security. Colleagues will additionally have access to mentoring and development opportunities to support progression into supervisory and leadership roles.
Mitie will also transition half of the fleet to electric vehicles, while maintaining the fuel diversity needed to support operational resilience during severe weather or localised power outages. The lower-emission fleet is expected to save approximately 11 tonnes of CO₂ per year.
Gary Culloden, Managing Director, Security at Mitie, said: "Being selected as Airbus’ new security partner reflects the strength of our approach, which combines highly trained colleagues with specialist intelligence, risk and assurance expertise to deliver a joined-up security service tailored to Airbus’ needs.
"What makes this contract particularly exciting is the opportunity to invest in people through new apprenticeships and clear progression, while also introducing new specialist support and a lower-emission fleet. We look forward to working closely with Airbus as we build a strong, long-term partnership."
